WHO AM I
I am Dr Ahoora Baranian, a psychotherapeutic counsellor specialising in working with children and adolescents. I received my qualification from the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge. I have trained in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and am furthering my studies at the Institute of Group Analysis. My background is in medical engineering, where I received a PhD in Biomechanics and Vision Sciences.
I began my work in the educational sector more than 20 years ago in a Pupil Referral Unit in West Yorkshire. Since then, I have worked in a variety of schools and charities supporting young people. This has included being the Learning and Recovery Lead at Saffron Walden County High School, where I initiated and established a pastoral hub (B16). As a Special Mentor at the National Teaching & Advisory Service, I worked with children who were not in schools for a variety of reasons such as anxiety, low self-esteem and other mental health issues.

I have been supporting the wellbeing of the people with low vision at Retina UK and Camsight. Since 2022 I have been the Outreach and Therapeutic Lead at Olive Academy, Cambridge developing and delivering a range of therapeutic programmes.
Through Cheshmeh I offer empathy, confidentiality, unconditional positive regard, acceptance, fluency, reflection, and a sense of wonder and play. I have an enhanced DBS and a professional supervisor, who ensures I am at my best in my counselling work. I can offer counselling in both English and in Farsi. I believe the relational human circumstances of the client is very important. Therefore, I welcome working inclusively with parents/caregivers and schools.

Trauma, self-injury, loss, migration, suicidal ideation, anxiety, group work, severe anger, adoption, domestic violence, grief, neurodiversity, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, low self-confidence and people with autism.
